Sunlight Gets a Half a Million Dollar Boost
Efforts to aggregate state-level legislative bill tracking via the web are among the Sunlight Foundation* initiatives expected to get a boost thanks to financing from entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and a number of foundations.
Sunlight announced Tuesday that it has received $553,077 in new funding to build on various projects that it had already tinkered around with. The biggest chunk in this round of grants came from the Rita Allen Foundation, which awarded Sunlight $300,000 to make the legislative data feeds of all 50 state legislatures available in an open-source format that can be used by developers to create applications. Sunlight is offering up the aggregated data on its web site the Open States Project. That project is being led by Sunlight Labs’s James Turk.
